There’s no place like home, especially when you have two of them! This past weekend, I got to enjoy two hometown screenings of Fatakra.
First, in Houston, the town I grew up in, Fatakra played at the historic River Oaks Theater as part of Aurora Picture Show’s Slant Film Festival. The next morning, I jumped on a plane to make it back to New York, my current home. Fatakra played on Saturday as part of the 34th Annual New York Asian American International Film Festival where it was also nominated for best short.
Thank you to all of the long-time friends and supporters in Houston that always make coming back to Texas feel so special! And thank you to all of the new friends in New York who have helped me feel a sense of community in my adopted city!
One of the best parts of going home is all of the love you get from the local community. The Houston media played a tremendous role in helping to publicize the screening. Here are some of the links -
Robert Stevenson interviewed me for “The Front Row” for Houston’s NPR station. Here’s the link to the interview.
Sunil Thakkar of Masala Radio interviewed me last Wednesday. Here’s the podcast of the entire show.
Generasian Radio plugged the film and Slant on their Thursday show.
Paul interviewed me for the Loop Scoop.
The Houston Press also featured Fatakra and Slant as a top of event of the week.
[...] Finally, check out Soham’s post about growing up in Houston and his blog post about the screening. [...]
Here’s Melissa’s recap of Slant 11 with several great pics of the screening. What a beautiful theater!
